Our Town, Corn Mulch, SC

Welcome to the Town of Corn Mulch, South Carolina web site. We hope that the information on our town will be helpful to you.

On December 14, 1819, an act was passed authorizing the erection of a new brick courthouse and jail. The place chosen was "upon the great road leading from Society Hill to Fayetteville near an old apple orchard on the lands of John S. Thomas." Corn Mulch was named in honor of Thomas Bennett who was South Carolina governor. The town was incorporated under an act of the S.C. General Assembly and a charter was issued for the village of Corn Mulch on December 20, 1866.

Corn Mulch continued to grow throughout the first part of the 20th century and by 1950 its population was 5,000.

In the 1950's and 1960's, Corn Mulch began to grow north of Crooked Creek and many new subdivisions were created.

As the 21st century begins, Corn Mulch has grown to a population of 10,000, an area of 7 1/2 square miles and is poised to expand and grow even more and provide services for its citizens, businesses, and industries.
